Your holiday in Hungary – expect a strong Forint
The Hungarian currency, the Forint (HUF) is very strong in those days. If your home currency is Euro, you will probably not notice the difference, because the exchange rates are very similar to those one year ago when the forint was also rather strong. Anyway, I do recommend to check xe.com for the exchange rates.
If you are a US-citizen, please note that the weak US-Dollar (USD) will meet a strong Forint in those days. So you will not get what you may expect when you visited Hungary a few years ago – the difference is not just ”a few percent”. Please check xe.com – and you will know.
Exchange rates here in Budapest for USD in cash are not that different from banks. You get the best value for your Dollar near shopping-malls in official exchange offices – usually, they are owned by banks.
For the GPB – it’s unfortunately nearly the same as for the USD – so you will get less Forints (end even Euros) for your Pounds than you got last year.
See details for GBP to Euro and to Forint in German. You can draw money from cash machines everywhere in Budapest – so don’t care to much about cash as a British citizen.
One thing to knoiw: Do not bring Scottish pounds in cash. The exchange offices do NOT take Scottish pounds and they do not want to hear that those are GBPs as well – and if you insist that those pounds are valuable pounds as well, they tend to be very angry about your “bad” behaviour.
Did I tell you everything? Probably not this fact: the 1-forint- and 2-forint coins are no longer valid – they always round up or down to 5 forints now.
